Lorraine came to the studio without having any idea of what was about to take place because her amazing daughter Emma had arranged for her lovely Mum to come in for a portrait session as part of whole day of awesome stuff she had planned for her. Considering the fact that it was a complete surprise, and she had no time to prepare herself for being photographed, Lorraine was a fantastic person to photograph and she looked absolutely amazing!!

I am so excited to announce the new promotion I am running for the month of August. Basically the idea behind it is that everything is a bit more fun and exciting when you can share it with someone- so if you book yourself in for a beauty portrait session in August (to be shot August, or September 2013) you can bring along one other person (maybe your best friend, daughter, sister or mother) and they get to have a full make over and portrait session on the house! You can even bring your husband along if you’d like to do a couples shoot, but they don’t have to take us up on the make over offer! Jaya is a graphic designer from Hamilton who works at a business that I often go to get bits and pieces printed and she got in touch with me when I first mentioned that I was going to start offering make overs and beauty portraits. I’m so happy with Jaya’s images, and I am very grateful that I got the opportunity to photograph this beautiful woman.

I know how hard it is to be photographed by someone, particularly if you don’t know them very well, so I was really honoured when Danica, a work colleague of mine, agreed to be one of my subjects, without even seeing any of my work. I am so happy to finally be able to make my big announcement! I have been working really hard over the last couple of months, learning new skills, and preparing myself and my workspace so that I am able to offer people the opportunity to have a beauty shoot with me

It’s definitely a different direction for me as a photographer, and I’m sure there will be some people who don’t quite see the connection between my personal work (particularly the Banksy project) and where I’m heading with this at the moment, but I do feel that it is important to work outside of your comfort zone and to dabble in other areas of your craft in order to really develop as an artist and continue to improve your skillset.

I feel that getting into this genre of photography has already made me a better photographer and will no doubt, improve my personal work in the years to come.

A couple of weekends ago I had a big day of beauty shoots in my new studio and I’ve finally finished editing all the photos. The images were all shot on a Canon 5d mk3 (which by the way, is utterly amazing) and a Canon 24-105 lens (also amazing).

I had three shoots booked in that day, a great variety of subjects and lots of nerves. We had Gabrielle on hair and make up, and me on photography. Everyone pitched in 120% and we ended up with some stunning images.

Over the next week or so I will be sharing these images, and I just want to take this opportunity to thank all of the ladies I had the pleasure of shooting, you were all so lovely to work with and I hope you like the photos.
